Exploit a deed

Turn a document into structured, linked data: catalogue the source, transcribe it, and connect every person, parcel and event it names — each backed by its citation.

The common steps

  1. Create the source. Record its type, archive, reference, date and support — and upload the scan.
  2. Transcribe it. Two complementary approaches:
    • The Transcription field (CKEditor) on the source form captures the full text — searchable and quotable.
    • In the source record, the Content and Media tabs let you transcribe each scan individually and link the people, parcels and events it names.

  3. Link what it names. Connect the parties, the parcels and the events the act documents.
  4. Cite it everywhere. Each fact you derive points back to this act as its proof.

By archival collection

Each collection has its own method — pick yours for a step-by-step guide.
